As a community, we are able to organize and execute our own events to supplement what the city (the Link) can offer.
Who would like to join a meetup that brainstorms ideas of events that will bring fun to our families, and draw attention (money) from other communities around us.
Samples:
These would probably need to be coordinated with the Link / City Hall:
- Marathons – this one would be great as a join adventure with the Link – utilizing the hike & bike trail from Glenview to Latham.
- Night hikes on hike & bike trail with ghost stories (I know a great story teller) and spooky treats
- Polar Express – a miniature trail traveling up and down hike & bike trail with decorations along the way – Christmas oriented vendors
Local Venue Ideas:
- Stick horse rodeo for the kids
- Ice cream Contest – pull out those old ice cream makers – judging, taste tests and awards
- Chili Cook Off (judging, taste tests & awards)
- Country Life Fair – CupCake Challenge and Cake Walk, Ice Cream Contest (pull out those old ice cream makers), petty zoo, homemade goody vendors
- Christmas Cookie contest/exchange
- “Kinda Korny” – maze, corn on the cob & cornbread treats, make a scarecrow, costumes & hayride
- Biergarten – craft beer tasting for adults, rootbeers for kids
- Horse Events (horse drawn carriages, ???)
- Music and dancing under the outdoor canopy, games for kids
- Movie Nights with popcorn, ice cream, etc… under cover but outside
- DIY Pie Bar (individual crusts with lots of fruit and cream toppings)
- Garden Gnome Hunts
- Plant exchanges
- Silent Auctions (fundraisers for RHPD, RHFD, Animal Shelter and more)
- Pecan Party (this is the land of Pecan Trees, surely we can make something fun from this)
- Flannel Festival
- Lemonade Stand Challenge
These are just a few ideas – what are yours – would you be willing to volunteer one night a month to help make these happen.
